Gobos enhance design by creating great visuals on walls, floors, backdrops
and other scenic elements. They can even be used in place of scenery.
The appearance of the image can be affected and/or enhanced through the use
of color filters and the angle and focus of the light being used, allowing
for additional design flexibility.

Standard Gobos vs. Custom Gobos
Providing useable standard pattern designs is an enjoyable process and Apollo
offers hundreds of standard patterns, from clouds to hearts, to cover many needs.
Yet, there are many occasions when personalization is also needed. A corporation
needs to project their logo, or a wedding may want to be personalized with the
bride and groom's names, or a photograph would best set the scene on stage.
These occasions and many more are when a custom gobo is necessary.
Glass Gobos vs. Steel Gobos
Glass gobos project clear, crisp detailed photos, images, or logos that require
specific color matches or gray scale without "bridging". Metal gobos require
"bridging" which connect the lines necessary to maintain the overall appearance
and integrity of the image.
Glass Gobos
Apollo glass gobos are made from high quality 1.1mm thick borosilicate glass. Our
in-house art and manufacturing capabilities allow for high quality and quick
turnaround. We produce glass gobos for any light in the industry.
Note: Glass gobos are not recommended for use in these fixtures: Altman 360Q,
Altman 3.5, and Colortran 5-50.
Steel Gobos
Apollo steel gobos are made from an 8 mil stainless steel with a high quantity
of nickel and chromium that provide longer life and image quality. The result
is durable patterns able to withstand high heat generated from both ellipsoidal
and intelligent lights. The majority of alternative products on the market are
made from a 5 mil stainless steel comprised of a large amount of carbon steel
that begins to oxidize (rust) and breakdown in a shorter period of time. If a
magnet sticks to the pattern, it is mainly carbon steel - which means it is not
an Apollo steel gobo.
SuperResolution® Gobos
Black & white glass gobos project detailed photos, images, or logos with or without gray scale.
They are designed for maximum temperature tolerance and longer life than metal gobos in higher
wattage ellipsoidal and intelligent lights. Black & white patterns feature our SuperResolution®
20,000 dpi process. Donuts are recommended for use with B&W glass patterns.
One Color Gobos
One Color gobos have one dichroic plate. On some original artwork one color gobos must
be put on a black plate to avoid a surrounding circle of light. The image below shows
a one color gobo on the left. Notice the white circle surrounding it. The image on
the right is a two color glass gobo and has no circle surrounding it. To achieve this
look you must add the black plate. Therefore, we must charge for a two-color pattern,
even though you don't "see" the black. Contact an Apollo representative for more details.
One color standard and custom gobos are designed to work best in metal pattern holders.

Two Color Gobos
Two color gobos have two dichroic plates. A black plate is considered a color. Example A
uses a black and cyan plate to create the desired gobo. In Example B the gobo is made from
a cyan and magenta plate to create the dark blue areas.
ColourScenic® Gobos
Colored glass gobos project clear, crisp detailed photos, images or logos that require specific
color matches or any images with gradients of color. They are designed for maximum temperature
tolerance and longer life in higher wattage ellipsoidal and intelligent lights. Color gobos
feature up to 20,000 dpi.
ColourScenic patterns are ideal for images requiring specific color matches or any images with
gradients of color. Multi-color glass gobos provide a clear crisp image. ColourScenic® gobos
feature up to 20,000 dpi.
